Indie folk je hudební žánr, který vznikl v roce 1990 díky hudebníkùm indie rockové komunity, ovlivnìných folkem a klasickou country hudbou. Indie folk hybridizuje melodie akustické kytary tradièní folkové hudby s dnešními nástroji. První umìlce zahrnovali Ani DiFranco a Dana Berna. Pozdìjšími umìlci, kteøí stojí za zmínku, jsou Joshua Michael Tillman, dále skupiny The Decemberists, Fleet Foxes, The Cave Singers, Loch Lomond, Bon Iver, Or, The Whale, Great Lake Swimmers a Blind Pilot.

Indie folk is a music genre that arose in the 1990s from musicians in the indie rock community influenced by folk and classic country music. Indie folk hybridizes the acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation.
